Survivors now have increased opportunities to seek justice because of California's Assembly Bill (AB 218) This law:

-          Lifted the statute of limitations for filing childhood sexual abuse claims. Previously there was a three-year window to file between 2020-2022. Now, the plaintiff now has until they are 40 years old or within five years of discovering the injury was caused by the abuse. 

-          Opens a “lookback window” allows plaintiffs to file for past sexual abuse even if the time limit has expired.

-          Allows survivors to pursue “treble damages”, meaning that if the abuse was proven covered up by the perpetrator or others, the survivor may be entitled three time the amount in compensation.
